The local community centre has undergone a visual transformation thanks to Pobl Trust funding
You may have noticed a bright new repair and paint job at Portmead and Blaenymaes Community Centre in Swansea in recent days? Using funding recently granted by Pobl Trust, the old and tired building is now getting a fresh new look.
Jo Powell, who sat on the Players Panel that considered all the applications for funding recently caught up with Jason and Paul to have a look at the changes taking place and find out more about what the centre offers the local community.
Significant repairs had to be made to the building before it could have the paint job and local contractor CJ Else have now transformed the building with a brand new look and feel.
The centre’s secretary, Jason Williams says:
“We get a lot of people coming through the doors at the moment but we want to attract more. We have boxing classes, boxercise, a club for the elderly twice a week and dance classes as well as karate. The building is a large communal space that could be used for a lot more local events.”
In total, the centre gained £4,900 funding from the Pobl Trust and what’s left after the makeover will go towards a launch event for local people to come and see what’s going on, what activities they can join in with and have a look at the makeover both in and outside the building.
“The building was looking a bit rough and worn before. We’re hoping this new look will attract a lot more people. We’ve already seen a lot more kids coming in since the repair work began last week.”
